For SACT nursing teams

Prepare for and record SACT administration in one connected workflow

Systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) nurses bring together patient assessment, treatment readiness, medicine administration, monitoring and the documentation required for every treatment encounter.

iQemo connects the prescribed treatment with the patient record and administration workflow. It helps nursing teams review relevant information, complete pre-administration checks, record each drug administration and make the treatment record available to the wider SACT team.

Treatment administration depends on a current, complete record

Before treatment begins, nurses may need to confirm that the prescription is ready, review recent results and measurements, understand what happened during previous treatment and identify any changes or outstanding actions. The administration record then needs to show clearly what was checked, what was given and what happened during treatment.

In iQemo, the administration view connects the treatment day with the prescription and patient record. Nurses can view information including the regimen, cycle, treatment date, patient measurements, available pathology results, assessments, notes, documents and allergies, according to the modules and integrations configured by the organisation.

What this can mean in nursing practice

01

Check treatment readiness before administration

Pre-administration checks must be completed before drug administration can be recorded. Depending on local configuration, iQemo can require or validate information such as weight, performance status and relevant pathology results. Warnings, missing results and treatment status are presented within the check, with permissions controlling which users may proceed or override defined restrictions.

02

Record each drug administration clearly

For each drug line, authorised users can record administration status and details including start and end times, batch and expiry information where required, and clinical comments. The record can distinguish between treatment that was given, not given or partially administered, with a reason and actual amount recorded where appropriate.

03

Use independent verification where local policy requires it

Dual-user confirmation can be configured for pre-administration checks and individual drug administration. Where it is required, the second user must authenticate and hold the appropriate permissions before the action can be completed. The administration record retains the users, date and time associated with the entry.

04

Record assessments and toxicity in the patient record

Structured assessments can be completed and reviewed from the patient record. Built-in tools include UKONS v3, Common Toxicity Criteria, CTCAE v5 and PRO-CTCAE, with configurable assessment forms available as an optional module. Assessment versions and edit history are retained, helping later reviewers understand what was recorded and when.

05

Keep clinical communication and follow-up visible

Patient-related notes and tasks can be categorised, prioritised and assigned to colleagues or teams. Threaded replies, a personal task inbox and an outstanding-task banner help keep questions and follow-up actions connected to the patient record rather than relying solely on separate messages or verbal handovers.

06

Reschedule selected treatment items when the workflow allows

Where enabled and clinically appropriate, authorised users can reschedule selected, unadministered drugs within the treatment cycle. iQemo requires a reason, checks for concurrent prescriptions and records who made the change, the affected drugs and the original and revised dates in the cycle history.

07

Extend the workflow with optional day-unit tools

Optional modules can add a visual appointment diary, nurse availability planning, patient check-in and progress tracking. Barcode functionality supports wristband and drug-label scanning during administration. For compatible smart infusion pumps, optional integration can associate pumps with patients and bring status and delivery data into iQemo; pump programming remains on the pump itself.
